Once, She meets a boy-girl who helps her see the bright side and the good things of life... They become friends and She falls in love. A moral with a positive quote... The End.
That's how fairytales are made.
Hmm... But What if... Even the Bright side of the world won't accept that girl.
It's okay not to be okay, is the what if part of the Fairytale and also a Thriller Murder Mystery.
Korean Dramas have Doctors, Writers and Soldiers all over the kdrama universe. Well, It's a Kdrama then it is bound to have some Romance. Without love, Kdrama is incomplete.
It's okay not to be okay kdrama, which is somewhat similar to Hotel del Luna. The story of love and salvation. The Story of becoming free from self-care.
It's okay not to be okay is a story of a girl, who doesn't have feelings... A boy who doesn't know himself and his brother who is locked in a cage.
Our protagonist is Moon Gang-Tae (Gang-ji), A caregiver (nurse) in a Psychiatric Hospital.
He is very good at his job and also loved by his patients. He is always smiling at his patients and never gets angry at anything... (Well, He is very awkward and hostile) Despite being good looking and good-natured, At the age of 30...Moon Gang-tae is still single and living with his only brother Sang-tae (Sang-ji).
Sang-tae is the older brother of Gang-tae, but Sang-tae is a little bit mentally disabled person. He is mentally ill. Despite being 34 years old. Sang-tae is still like a kid.
At the age of 12, Gang-tae lost his mother and has to take his older brother Sang-tae to another city. Sang-tae was born mentally disabled and faced psychological trauma after his mother's death.
Sang-tae has nightmares of butterflies chasing him and can't stop crying. Gang-tae was always busy saving him from his nightmares and taking his care.
It's been about 20 years now, still, Sang-tae is chased by those nightmares. Gang-tae always runs away from the city to city to make Sang-tae believe that they are far away from those butterflies. That's the reason, he can't stay in one place for too long.
All these years... Jae-Su is the only friend who helped Gang-tae in everything. He is more like a brother to Gang-tae than a best friend. (He deserves an award for his loyalty) Jae-Su knows everything about Gang-tae. But, Still, he can't see real Gang-tae.
Ko Mun-Yeong is a famous children's book writer and beautiful young lady. She writes fairytales and books which are related to her life and herself.
She has a dominating personality. If she wants something, She will take it no matter what the price.
Lee Sang-in is the Manager and Publisher of her books. He is very much like a guardian and loyal friend of Ko Mun-Yeong. Sang-in takes care of every problem for Ko mun-Yeong.
After a certain incident, Gang-tae has to resign from his hospital and becomes jobless. Nam Ju-ri, a nurse from Ok Psychiatric Hospital is a friend of Gang-tae and has known him for many years. She offers him to get a job at the hospital and also Her house to stay. The hospital is in Sahyung. She is practically in love with him but she doesn't want him to know it.
After many thoughts... He accepts the offer. The Ok Psychiatric hospital is run by O Ji-wang who is a famous psychiatrist. Gang-tae takes her brother to the hospital in hope that O Ji-wang can help him cure his trauma.
O Ji-wang is a good person and takes the challenge. At the same hospital, Ko Dae-han father of Ko mun-Yeong is admitted for his mental illness.
By Fate, Ko mun-Yeong meets Gang-tae.
Ko mun-Yeong who has no feeling and Gang-tae who is an expert in hiding his feeling have crossed their paths.
Was this their destiny?
Will they just fall in love and help each other to fill their emptiness?
But, It's not that simple fairytale...
Apparently, Sang-tae doesn't want Ko mun-Yeong to take Gang-tae away from him and Gang-tae don't want to do the same mistake again which he did 20 years ago.. (It's really heartbreaking)
There is one more character missing from the story... Ko mun-yeong's mother, Do Hui-jae.
She was also a famous writer of detective thriller stories. She vanished and was said to be dead for years. But, there is someone who is still taking control over Ko Mun-Yeong's life. Someone who controls her from her childhood.
Her father wants her dead too.
Who are that women?
What happened to Gang-Tae's mother?
What are those butterflies?
What is the connection between Gang-tae and Ko Mun-Yeong?
What happened to Sang-tae?

It has so many little stories and psychological lessons that a normal human may not have heard about.
It's okay not to be okay gives you the ride of a psychological thriller and a psychiatric hospital.
I would highly recommend this Kdrama if you think, you are lonely and unromantic... It will teach you to socialize and have some fun.
